Friends:

Charlie

"You've got talent. Uncle Sam could use you."

Nationality: U.S.A.
Height: 6' 1"
Weight: 185 lbs
Blood type: AB
Fighting Style: Special Forces

Charlie is a First Lieutenant in the US Army who has co-piloted many missions with his good friend Guile. He is also is the original master of the "Special Forces" style he and Guile use, and in my own humble opinion, I think Guile still had some learning to do, because I always liked Charlie better. Charlie is an idealist with a strong sense of right and wrong. Even though Guile outranks Charlie, Guile looks up to him.

If someone pointed a gun to my head and told me what Street Fighter guy I think would be the best boyfriend for Chun-Li, Charlie would be my first and only choice. He's a gentleman and an honest and dedicated soldier. But he's also dead. I mean he's REALLY dead. Bison killed him, then a trecherous helicopter pilot killed him, then he fell down a big-ass waterfall, then he was killed in a Shadaloo experiment, and finally he sacrificed himself to buy Guile time to escape from Shadaloo headquarters before it blew up. Of all these deaths, the only one that doesn't completely contradict Guile's SF2 story is the Alpha 3 one, the one where he saves Guile at the cost of his own life, so that's probably the "real" death. Some people argue that all these conflicting stories could mean that Charlie might actually still be alive. Those people don't take hints very well.

The only game Charlie officially teams up with Chun-Li in is SFA3. They appear together in several other character's endings as well. The two are leading a vigilante anti-Shadaloo task force that Guile was sent to stop by corrupt Army officials.

Guile

"Are you bad enough to fight with me?"*

Nationality: U.S.A.
Date of Birth: 12-23-1960
Height: 6' 1"
Weight: 191 lbs
Blood Type: O
Fighting Style: Special Forces

Captain Guile is a very angry man. Someone keeps killing his best friend. ^_^ He leaves his family and pursues Bison on his own. He's ended up joining forces with Chun-Li in SFA3 and virtually every SF movie and animated series made, however. Most of the time he upstages Chun-Li, but I don't mind, cuz in official SF plotline Chun-Li gets Bison and not him.

Guile is a battle-hardened soldier who's much more pessimistic than Charlie. I find this a little ironic because Charlie seems to have a much better grip on reality than Guile, really. It seems to me that every game Guile's in, he's on some single-minded mission. He's either blindly following orders or he's blinded with rage against Bison and seeks nothing but the ultimate payback. However, Guile basically is a good person who always seems to do the right thing in the end.

*True, the usual line is "man enough" but in the SNES version of Super SF2 he says "Bad enough" instead, and I think it's kinda funny. So there.

Gen

"Young one, what is it you seek?"

Nationality: China
Height: 5' 4"
Weight: 135 lbs
Blood Type: O
Fighting Style: Ansatsuken ("Murderous Fist")

Gen's story is a bit confusing, and to an extent I blame Capcom USA's translations team. Gen is/was a legendary assassin who recently (well, "recent" as of the SFA series) has grown ill. Rather than simply fading away, Gen sets out in search of someone who can kill him in battle. It's disputable as to whether or not Gen is Yun and Yang's grandfather, but he did teach them a few moves.

You won't see it in anything that Capcom USA's translations team got their hands on, but I've got credible sources that say Capcom of Japan has officially stated that Gen taught Chun-Li some moves. Not a hell of a lot, but a few. Apparently he wasn't making enough money as an assasain and became a part-time martial arts instructor for young kids. What the hell?

Wallace

"Aw, come on! Chun-Li, take it easy on 'em, will ya?"

Wallace is Chun-Li's partner in the SF Alpha anime. He's one of four original characters introduced in the film and is by far the best of 'em, because he's the only one who doesn't totally screw up the storyline. The best way to think of him is as the typical "too little too late" sidekick you can see in a lot of action films. He sometimes provides Chun-Li with important information, but of course he's pretty useless in the field. When he and Chun-Li track down a bunch of bad guys, Wallace has his gun drawn fires every so often, but of course he always misses, whereas Chun-Li runs right up to the thugs and starts kicking ass. All Wallace can really do is smile sheepishly as Chun-Li piles up the bodies. ^_^ Special thanks to G-Man for making this Wallace pic!

Enemies:

Vega

"You witch! I'll make you suffer!"

Nationality: Spain
Date of Birth: 1-27-1967
Height: 6' 0"
Weight: 208 lbs
Blood Type: O
Fighting Style: "Spanish Ninjitsu"

Vega's an egotistical lunatic who combined the art of ninjitsu with skills he learned as a matador and thus became known as "The Spanish Ninja." He works as an assasin for Shadaloo and is probably the most feared of all Bison's underlings.

Remember when Street Fighter II first came out? Even though he was the second of four tough bosses, Vega was considered by many as the man to beat. Vega and Chun-Li have never met officially, but they are often pitted against each other in the movies, cartoons, comics, etc. In fact, their fight in the SF II anime is, without a doubt, the best fight in the movie, or any other movie.

Urien

"Let me see for myself, if the rumors about you are true..."

Urien made his first appearance in Street Fighter III: Second Impact. He's the jealous little brother of Gill, the ultra-cheap final boss of the SF III series. He's a mischievous little bugger, too. Gill is the leader of a cult-like criminal organization and Urien seems to be the head of its Department of Evil Deeds, because although a lot of people in the SF III tournament are pissed off at Gill for one reason or another, most of time Urien was actually responsible. Whereas Gill is insane, Urien is evil.

In SF III: Third Strike, Chun-Li returns to the Street Fighter tournament to rescue a little girl kidnapped by Urien. Exactly WHY Urien kidnapped the girl is never made known, though... My guess, and this is only me, is that Urien kidnapped the girl in order to lure Chun-Li back into the fighting arena. After all, her victory against Shadaloo made her a legend. Hopefully Third Strike won't be the last edition of the SF III series and maybe we'll learn a little more. Of course, I'm not holding my breath.

M. Bison

"You are here for revenge? Ha! Bring all your hate!
I will destroy you!"

Nationality: Unknown
Date of Birth: Unknown
Height: 5' 11"
Weight: 254 lbs
Blood Type: A

The big guy of the Street Fighter series. Bison is the head of Shadaloo, an international criminal organization dealing in basically anything illegal. Directly responsible for the deaths of Charlie, Chun-Li's father, and countless others, Bison views all other lives as expendible and will dispose of anybody standing in his way without hesitation. Bison uses "Psycho Power" to defeat his opponants in combat, power that he enhances in his Shadaloo laboratories by capturing powerful street fighters and will either use his power to warp their minds or he'll absorb their power and make it his own.

Chun-Li had been on Bison's trail for many years by the time they met in the Street Fighter II tournament. Although she remained a bit of a thorn in his side for a while now, Bison never really considered her to be a serious threat and so never made an earnest attempts to eliminate her that we know of.

There are many mysteries surrounding M. Bison, including his defeat. It has been officially stated by Capcom that Akuma is the one who actually killed Bison, however Chun-Li's conversation with Urien strongly indicates that Chun-Li fought and defeated him in the SF2 tournament. So it would seem that Akuma simply appeared and finished him off after Chun-Li had already won the fight. Man, I really would have liked to have seen how that went down...

Rival babes:

Mai Shiranui

"How did you like my ninja-tricks?"

Nationality: Japan
Date of Birth: January 1, 1976
Height: 164cm (5 feet 4 inches)
Weight: 50kg (109 pounds)
Blood Type: B
Fighting Style: Shiranui Style Ninjitsu

Mai Shiranui is Chun-Li's biggest rival gamegirl. They come from rival companies, they are both the main females of their games, they are both Asian, and they have very similar abilities. It's only natural that when Capcom Vs. SNK came out and rivalries were established (such as Ryu & Kyo, Bison & Geese, etc) that Chun-Li's rival was Mai.

Sonya Blade

After Street Fighter II took the gaming world by storm, everyone and their cousin tried to create the next big thing. Well, here in the USA, that next big thing was Mortal Kombat. Sonya Blade was the only female character in the game, and therefore she was viewed by many as Mortal Kombat's Chun-Li. During the MK's golden period (which lasted four years, max) SF and MK fans hotly debated which game was superior, and there was no shortage of comparisons between Chun-Li and Sonya.

Of course, in the end, the MK craze died down, and although SF isn't nearly as popular as it was when it first came out, its longevity is testimony to its popularity, because the only other fighting game series (not counting other Capcom fighters) that still fights in 2D is SNK's King of Fighters series, and God bless 'em both because if and when those series' are discontinued, we'll all be stuck with 3D fighters.

Fei Lin

Long ago, Data East made a game called Fighter's History that so closely resembled Street Fighter II, Capcom took them to court. Unfortunately, they lost, but any fan with half a brain could tell that this game was a complete knock-off of SFII. Fei Lin is one of the characters from Fighter's History, and although she isn't the only female in the cast, her uncanny resemblence to Chun-Li was among Capcom's list of grievances. They also have very similar moves and although I don't know much of Feilin's story, but it wouldn't surprise me to find out that it involves hunting down a drug lord final boss to avenge her murdered father.

Capcom may have lost in court, but it wasn't exactly a tremendous victory for Data East. Fighter's History was never exactly a big moneymaker. The only reason people remember it amongst the scores of SF-wannabes is because of Capcom's lawsuit, because there's nothing at all that seperates this fighting game from all the others.

Cammy White

Nationality: Unknown (lives in England)
Date of Birth: January 6, 1974
Height: 164 cm (5 feet 4 inches)
Weight: 46 kilos (101 pounds)
Fighting Style: Special Forces
Blood Type: B

Come on, we all know Cammy, Delta Red's favorite teenage amnesiac. She used to be a puppet assassin for M. Bison, but after being rescued (by Vega, of all people) and dropped off in front of M16 HQ, she's been fighting with the good guys. Not that we ever see too much of Delta Red Cammy these days, because Capcom's too damn cheap to draw a new sprite for her.

Cammy and Chun-Li, though only very loosely connected storywise, have often been paired together in Street Fighter art, both official and fan. Until Sakura Kasugano was introduced in SF Alpha 2, nobody else (namely, Rose) could even come close to the popularity of the babe-a-licious duo, Chun-Li & Cammy. Which makes you wonder why Capcom hasn't given Cammy her Delta Red outfit back so they'd once again be on the same side, those cheap bastards.

Morrigan Aensland

Nationailty: Scotland
Date of Birth: 1678

"My beauty can overcome brains and brawn"

Morrigan, a succubus, is from "Capcom's other 2D fighter" Darkstalkers. Even though the poster boy for Darkstalkers is Demitri, the vampire, Morrigan is the one whose popularity has really taken off. Whereas Demitri is yet to star in one game outside the series, Morrigan's been in Puzzle Fighter, Pocket Fighter, Marvel Vs. Capcom (the only Darkstalker in MvC1, and the only female besides Chun-Li), Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, and the Capcom Vs SNK games.

Being the token female and the de facto poster gal for Capcom's 2nd-best fighting series, people naturally associate her with Chun-Li, the token female of the Street Fighter world. In Pocket Fighter, Morrigan's very quest is to find Chun-Li and slap her silly because Morrigan is jealous of Chun-Li's beauty and popularity, and who wouldn't be? I'm also thoroughly convinced that Morrigan has no nipples. ^_^

Sun Shang Xiang

Pronounciation: soon shong jee-ong
Nationailty: China
Also known as: Lady Sun, Sun Ren, Sun Li
Date of Birth: Unknown (probably 187 AD, give or take a couple years)
Weapon: Chakram

"My brother shall praise me for defeating you."

Sun Shang Xiang is a character from Koei's "tactical action" series, Dynasty Warriors, which is based on a real war in ancient China. Historically, Sun Shang Xiang didn't actually fight in any battles, but I think if they'd let her she would have been a real fighting force. Her father, Sun Jian, and elder brothers, Sun Ce and Sun Quan, were all highly accomplished warriors, and she had a real interest in weapons and the art of war.

In Dynasty Warriors, she IS a real fighting force. Her moves are quick, cover a wide area, and can devastate crowds of enemy soldiers. One of my favorite characters in the game. Although there are other females in the DW games, Sun is by far the most Chun-Li-like, both with her look and with her story, studying the fighting arts to follow in her family's footsteps.
