I didn't honestly believe that my last rant about Chun-Li & Ryu never possibly being a couple would stop the Ryu fans from trying to make a case, but I did hope it would shut some of them up. Well, it didn't. I was having a debate with yet another one just last night when he said some things that caught my attention:
"I think it's entirely within the realm of possibility, given that the two characters both are street fighters (meaning that they have the possibility of contact with each other), that they're peers (age-wise and experience-wise), and above all, they're both human.
"And let's face it, while it's all well and good to explain a relationship away because it doesn't make *sense*, the wiles of cupid often defy logic. ;-)
"...Well, if you know you're right, then you should be able to point to something "canon" that specifically denies the idea."
I think it's fair to say that this is the arguement most Chun-Li & Ryu fans cling to: There's nothing explicitly disqualifying the possibility and love works in mysterious ways, therefore Chun-Li & Ryu as a couple could happen. They can't prove it would happen, mind you, the best they can do is say that it could.
I'm tired of trying to prove to these nitwits that Chun-Li & Ryu would never happen, so from now on I'm taking an entirely different approach... I'm going to take their arguements and turn it against them. The next time a Ryu fan comes to me trying to argue his case, I'm going to use the same arguements he used for Ryu and apply them to arguing a Chun-Li & Cammy relationship.
Think about it: Not only are they both Street Fighters and peers, but they're also in very similar lines of work, so their personalities are probably much more compatible than Chun-Li and Ryu's would be. Love DOES work in mysterious ways, as I'm sure every gay man and woman who recently discovered their true identity will tell you, and there's nothing in the SF canon that denies the possibility. In fact, based on the information provided in the SF canon, it seems much more likely to happen than Chun-Li & Ryu.
Do I honestly believe this arguement? Of course I don't. The fact of the matter is, while I can't prove Chun-Li and Cammy would be a couple, I also can't DISPROVE it. Neither can you, for that matter. There's nothing in the SF canon that indicates that either Chun-Li or Cammy is heterosexual, and by the logic used by the Chun-Li & Ryu fans, my arguement is equally valid and just as likely to occur. Think about that next time you try and make a case for Chun-Li & Ryu, fanboys.
