Cammy's Fans
![]() Ha ha ha ha! I kill me! |
I think it's a damn fine site. I really do. Building a site is one thing, but maintaining it for an extended period of time is an entirely different and much more difficult task. Stefan's been a webmaster for many years and you certainly have to give him some respect for that. Even when the site is about something you love, it can be difficult to keep going. Even though Kikouken.com itself is less than a year old, I've had my Chun-Li page for almost five years. I've been a webmaster for a long time and I've gone through several periods where I just felt completely burned out. But after I rest up, I come right back, stronger than ever, and so does Stefan. He's done a great service to Cammy's fans.
However, over the years Stefan has made quite a notorious reputation for himself with a large number of Street Fighter fans, and for anybody who's visited his page, it's not hard to see why. The man's got quite a few opinions... on EVERYTHING. Be it the Democratic Party or the New England Patriots, Stefan has time and time again reminded us of where he stands on every possible issue whether we want to know or not.
His most infamous claim to fame of course is his extremely harsh cristicisms of Chun-Li. I mean for the love of Pete, the way he talks about her you'd think she ran over his dog or something. I personally find his criticisms quite laughable and not worth dignifying with a counter-argument, so don't expect me to make one. What does annoy me though is that he takes every possible opportunity to slam her, and often MAKES the opportunity if none presents itself.
Now of course, Cammyfan.com is his site and it's his right to say what he wants on it, but I find it extremely frustrating when he hammers some crazy idea into the head of one of his fanboy lackeys and then they come knocking on my door. It's happened, and it pisses me off. This is where it stops being about an opinionated webmaster and starts being about the fan community in general, just like the fanfic boardroom leaders that shun anybody who doesn't conform to their norms, and Stefan needs to take a little more responsibility in that respect.
I'm sure someone will try and point out to me that someone who's written six of these highly-opinionated rants shouldn't be one to talk about being opinionated, but whether you agree with my arguments or not, no one can debate that I at least back up my opinions with some degree of factual evidence and I keep my opinions on the rants page where they belong. I don't let them intrude onto the main attraction of the site.
I also like to think I hold a greater respect for other people's right to opinions than Stefan does. Note that I didn't say I respect everybody's opinion. I don't respect a lot of people's opinions, nor does any reasonable person. The fact of the matter is that there are lots of opinions out there that aren't worth respecting. However, I firmly believe everybody has a right to their own opinions, and a person's right to their own opinions is the cornerstone of a free society.
Before anyone asks, for the record, I have nothing against Cammy. When Super SF2 came out, I tried to make her one of my best characters because I thought she was really cool, but I guess her style just didn't click with me the way Chun-Li's does. I still enjoy playing as her from time to time, however, because I still think she's a very cool character.
Personally, I think she's the single most misused character in the gaming universe. Capcom keeps recycling that god-awful Shadaloo outfit (and what kind of color for Cammy is TEAL!? I mean come on, people!) and they seriously screwed up her storyline in SFA3. Of course, they screwed up just about everyone else in SFA3, too, so my biggest complaint with her is that Capcom keeps using that tired old Shadaloo sprite instead of giving her her MUCH better Delta Red outfit. Not only that, the story of her working as a secret agent for the British government is a thousand times cooler than being one of Bison's "dolls." I haven't met a single person who likes her Shadaloo outfit more than her Delta Red one, even in the time I spent visiting the Cammyfan boardrooms before they went down.
I'm not trying to start a site war with Cammyfan.com. Despite the fact that we have many different opinions I still respect his right to them and I greatly respect him as a webmaster. Personally I would love to get in contact with him, I think he and I may have some interesting discussions. Of course, that's not possible when he doesn't provide any means of contacting him, but that's how it goes, I guess.
The point I'm trying to make is... well, I suppose this article wasn't really meant to have a point. You people want to know what I think of my counterpart, Cammyfan.com? Here's your answer.
